The Sal Silk Kimono is the Chame collection edition of our popular kimono. Made from 100% organic medium-weight silk twill, it flows and drapes around the body in lustrous movements of paint streaks.

In Sal's artwork, collaborating artist James Watkins reflected the dusty tones of the red, green, and yellow shrubbery found at high elevation in Nepal's Himalayan mountains.

Originally a large-scale painted work on canvas, James photographed a minute section of the canvas to be used as the kimono's print. The photograph was then digitally printed onto silk to be cut and transformed into our contemporary kimono. With the close-up perspective of the canvas, the artwork's brushstrokes add a painterly feel to the piece, as if the paint is still drying.

Sal's silk is responsibly sourced, with our supplier achieving Bluesign certification for responsible textile manufacturing and production. They've also received a Certificate of Environmental Standards with SRS, and CERES Organic Silk Certification.

The kimono is manufactured at a small-batch production studio in South London. The studio specializes in high-end production, working with many emerging designers and brands in the city. Each piece is made by hand in-studio by their talented seamstresses and cutters. It takes over four hours to cut and sew just one kimono.
