The Pender Denim Trouser is the first release from our Saturna collection, inspired by the Pacific Northwest. The Pender is named after the funky Pender Street which cuts across Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

The Pender takes shape as a classic denim style, with a medium-rise and straight leg. It serves as a practical canvas for artist Jamie House's wild graphic print.

Experimenting for our collection, Jamie became interested in the reactions between ceramic and glass paints on paper. The paints react unexpectedly and dry quickly, allowing for an unexpected and intuitive creative exploration. Jamie created 48 experiments in total, of which we chose a green and gold work for the Pender. The colours resemble the mix of foliage in the Pacific Northwest's autumn, a blend of deep green pine and the shedding of golden deciduous leaves.

Testing variations of Justified Ancients on Organic Cotton.

The chemical paint was scanned, then digitally altered to create the resulting artwork, Justified Ancients. Afterwards, the artwork was tested and digitally printed on organic drill cotton. Organic cotton is an important fabric in the green revolution: its water pollution impact is 98% less than non-organic cotton production.*

Our printing supplier uses eco-friendly digital pigment inks and professionally recycles its ink waste to avoid being sent to landfill. Their printing process requires no water and uses around 95% less energy than traditional screen printing.

The Pender was manufactured at our local small-batch production studio in East London. They specialize in high-end production, working with many emerging designers and brands in the city. Each pant was made by hand in-studio by their talented seamstresses and cutters.
