Our Fifth Anniversary, Expressed in Art

How time flies. Blue Nude launched in May, 2021, marking this year as our fifth anniversary. Rather than focusing on an outward celebration, we wanted to mark the occasion with reflection. After a whirlwind five years, what does Blue Nude mean?

At the heart of our work, Blue Nude stands for the independent arts, self-expression, and the forming of bonds through creative connection. There is no better artist to honour this than Jamie House.

My close friend and creative partner of 13 years, Jamie has been involved in Blue Nude from day one, designing our logo, and, over the past five years, has contributed to our Saturna collection, 'Art Parties' - either as an exhibiting artist or DJ - and graphic design. To mark this milestone, we designed two 'fifth anniversary prints' in the spirit of our shared artistic language - celebrating the creativity and friendships that the Blue Nude community has fostered.

As an artist, Jamie's most distinctive speciality is light and prism art. He is fascinated by and drawn to art that mirrors the idea of the mandala - something ephemeral that changes and is lost with time. It encourages lack of attachment to material things and acceptance of change; the ebb and flow of life. Fortunately, Jamie agreed to translate his light installations into permanent form, creating an original print for our Prism Sleeveless Top. In his Yorkshire studio, he created light installations with crystal prisms and photographed them. The result is a luminous gradient that washes over the top like a glowing ember.

Throughout my time as the Creative Director of Blue Nude, I gained something unexpected - a voice in other artistic disciplines. Behind the scenes, I've been developing my artistic practice beyond design - through painting, photography, and music. 

While I prefer to highlight the artistic voices of our collaborators, behind the scenes I have been developing my artistic practice beyond design -  through painting, photography, and music. I wanted to hand-paint a print to mark the fifth anniversary of Blue Nude, as a symbol of what creativity can foster in an individual. For the Polka Sleeveless Top, I painted what I see as a quintessential Blue Nude symbol - my beloved spiral - in vibrant, earth-toned colours and textures.

The two tops sit together as individual interpretations of spiritual objects. There is no 'look', no homogeny - just two creative souls designing things that help make people feel as though they look on the outside how they feel on the inside.
